Introducing Goggles – A Quick Guide

Introducing Goggles

Introducing goggles to children, especially little ones, can prove to be difficult. However, School of Little Swimmers’ recommends the introduction of goggles as they are the best protection for eyes against chlorine, salt and pH imbalances.

In the Bath!

Introducing goggles during bath time is one of the best times to do so. Children are in a familiar environment and have more control so wearing goggles isn’t as much of a problem as introducing them in a new environment like a swimming pool. In the bath your child can experiment with the goggles in water and become prepared for swimming in a pool or the beach.

Goggles are Fun!

It can be a struggle to get children to wear and keep goggles on and if so, don’t force them to keep them on or even try them on. Demonstrate on yourself how they look, allow your child to touch them while they’re on you so they can relate. Allow your child to play with the goggles, letting them put the goggles on toys and trying to put them on themselves. If they don’t want to try them, don’t be discouraged. Try the next day until your child becomes comfortable having them around.

Once on, your child may not like keeping them on. Again, just keep trying every day and eventually your child will feel comfortable enough to wear goggles for long periods of time.

School of Little Swimmers’ recommends goggles but we also recommend goggle free time. Goggles are crucial to teach your child to swim but goggle free time is crucial for survival.

At School of Little Swimmers, we are here to help to make this transition a smooth one. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
